New factory takes a significant step towards its new purpose as a central player in boosting Finnish microchip ecosystem and capabilities, with the appointment of Pasi Pylväs as Finnish Chip Competence Centre (FiCCC) Director and Elina Mielityinen as FiCCC Coordinator. New Factory is the coordinating partner of the FiCCC consortium, and thus a natural home for these key members of the Competence Centre operations.
Pasi Pylväs comes from an extensive background in semiconductor industry and innovation, while Elina Mielityinen brings in her strong experience in international projects, stakeholder engagement and communications.
Aligned with the Chips from the North growth strategy and the EU Chips Act, FiCCC aims to boost the competitiveness of Finnish and European semiconductor industries by fostering innovation, collaboration, and technological advancement. FiCCC serves as a gateway connecting Finnish microchip ecosystem with European initiatives, facilitating access to cutting-edge expertise, resources, and funding opportunities.
FiCCC operates under the leadership of a strong consortium: New Factory as the coordinating partner, Kvanttinova, Business Oulu and Photonics Finland.
This collaboration unites expertise from academia, industry, and regional development agencies to deliver impactful results for Finland’s semiconductor sector.
Connecting Finland and Europe
FiCCC plays a pivotal role in aligning Finland’s microchip capabilities with European initiatives, helping stakeholders access piloting opportunities, training, and funding mechanisms. Simultaneously, it strengthens Finland’s position in the global semiconductor landscape by showcasing its unique expertise.
“Europe has been criticized for the lack of innovation, funding and limited number of globally leading technology companies which has some truth in it. However, instead of endless scepticism to EU and its operations, we want to be part of the solution not the problem. To do our part, we are on a mission to connect Finnish stakeholders to European opportunities while driving innovation and growth domestically. FiCCC ensures that Finland reaches the forefront of global semiconductor developments.” summarizes Pasi Pylväs.
