EU grants funding for the Finnish Chips Competence Centre (FiCCC) and the European Network of Chips Competence Centres (ENCCC) network

Updated: Dec 4, 2024

We are happy to announce that the Finnish Chips Competence Centre (FiCCC) and the consortium in which New Factory is involved, European Network of Chips Competence Centres (ENCCC), have been granted four-year funding by the European Union. New Factory is the national Coordinator of the FiCCC.

The FiCCC consortium, consisting of Photonics Finland, BusinessOulu, Kvanttinova Oy, and New Factory, is eagerly starting the development work of the competence centre together.

Our goal in the following years is to accelerate the growth and competitiveness of both the Finnish and European semiconductor sectors. The competence centre will support the development of advanced chips technologies and solutions that give various industries a competitive edge, opening new possibilities for their use and, in turn, driving increased demand and business opportunities for semiconductor providers.

Combining regional areas of expertise enables Finland's strong participation in the implementation of the European chip strategy and gives companies and industry players the opportunity to benefit from the unique strengths of each region.

This nationally unique project has emerged from the common will, which goal is to raise Finland to the top of chip expertise in Europe.

“We have solid semiconductor research and know-how in Finland, and in Tampere in particular. This has been one of the reasons why the competence centre will be located in Tampere, serving as a central link between Finnish and European semiconductor research and pilot lines. FiCCC also brings a new purpose for New Factory that already has a long history in the Finnish business scene” comments Jari Erkkilä, CEO of New Factory.

The European Network of Chips Competence Centres (ENCCC) consortium was granted a four-year funding

ENCCC is the international network of competence centres in which the New Factory is involved in as the only Nordic country representative. The goal of ENCCC is to ensure that national stakeholders have access to the best available expertise and support in Europe, by matching stakeholders’ needs with the available expertise in the network of competence centres. New Factory is honoured and eager to start the good development work with ENCCC.
